We had a quiet May while students were busy preparing for their exams! But we’re back this month for another round-up of what’s been going on at STEM Accelerator!
June turned into “Work Experience Month” for us this year! Students from local schools and colleges worked on lots of exciting projects including:
- Testing new components for our robots
- Designing a solar power source for use in third world countries
- Planning, filming and editing a 360º tours of UCS and the waterfront, and Ipswich Museum.
- 3D scanning of pieces from the Anglo Saxon collection at Ipswich Museum
Next month we’re looking forward to welcoming more students for more technology-based projects, including our exciting new project building personalised splints.
We also have a few spots open for work experience at the end of the summer holidays, but places are filling up fast! Click here to find out more.
We welcomed students from West Suffolk College for a day of Sports Science in the state-of-the-art labs at UCS Ipswich. Students learned all about biomechanics, movement analysis and sports psychology. They also got to try out some of the equiptment and see how science can be used in the sports/football industries.

Coming up in this summer holidays:
The first of our two summer STEM weeks is 25th-29th July at Lowestoft College. There are sessions from the police, fire department, food manufacturing, engineering and more!
Then in August, we have our second STEM week from 15th-19th at UCS Ipswich. There’s going to be computer games design (including virtual reality games!), robots, and more.
Hope you all have fantastic summers!
